CURRICULAR BANDS:

WIND ENSEMBLE

The Edison High School Wind Ensemble is the most select ensemble in the curricular band program. The wind ensemble has gained a strong reputation for performing grades 4-5+ repertoire with a very high level of musicianship. Membership is by audition only. Over the past years, the EHS wind ensemble has consistently received superior ratings at state and national music festivals and has been chosen to perform for the NJMEA State Gala in 2017, 2018, and 2024.

 

The Wind Ensemble is a full year long course offered as a full credit elective. Students in the Wind Ensemble come for private assessment and lessons with the band directors during the school day. Grades are determined using the following criteria: lesson preparedness, repertoire preparation, class participation, and individual improvement.

SYMPHONIC BAND

The Edison High School Symphonic Band is made up of 10th-12th graders and performs grade 3-4+ repertoire. Students in this ensemble regularly attend the annual NJMEA Band Festival and receive silver and gold ratings. 

 

Symphonic Band is a full year long course offered as a full credit elective. Students in the symphonic band come for private assessment and lessons with the band directors during the school day. Grades are determined using the following criteria: lesson preparedness, repertoire preparation, class participation, and individual improvement.

CONCERT BAND

The Edison High School Concert Band is made up of all incoming 9th graders and performs grades 2-3+ level high school repertoire. The concert band seeks to establish and reinforce fundamental musical skills to prepare students to be members of the symphonic band and wind ensemble in their 10th-12th grade years.

 

Concert Band 9 is a full year long course offered as a full credit elective. Students in the symphonic band come for private assessment and lessons with the band directors during the school day. Grades are determined using the following criteria: lesson preparedness, repertoire preparation, class participation, and individual improvement.

EXTRA CURRICULAR BANDS/GROUPS:

MARCHING BAND

The Edison High School Marching Band has performed in front of thousands of people across New Jersey and other surrounding states. The band prepares continuously over the summer for their fall competition season, which includes performing at venues such as High Point Solutions Stadium at Rutgers University and MetLife Stadium. The band also provides school spirit at varsity football games and pep rallies. The 2023 EHS Marching Eagles show was titled “Bridges”, and won FIRST PLACE in both US Bands NJ State Chamionship, and the NJMBDA State Championships!  They were also awarded the Bronze Medal in the 2023 US Bands National Championships!

JAZZ ENSEMBLE

The Edison High School Jazz Ensemble is the premier jazz group made up of members who audition at the highest level. The Jazz Ensemble has a long standing reputation of gold and superior ratings at many festivals across New Jersey and beyond and has been chosen to perform for the 2017, 2018, and 2024 NJAJE State Jazz Finals. In 2024, the Jazz Ensemble placed 2nd in the state.


The Jazz Ensemble advances pedagogical jazz foundations of students by exploring more in depth concepts surrounding jazz music theory and improvisation, and performs advanced level repertoire spanning the breadth of the jazz idiom including latin, blues, fusion, and rock. This group is an extracurricular group that spans from November to May.

JAZZ BAND

The Edison High School Jazz Band is an auditioned group with a more open and fluid instrumentation than the jazz ensemble. The Jazz Band regularly accepts "non-traditional" jazz band instruments including clarinet and flute. The jazz band performs and competes in the NJAJE circuit.

 

The Jazz Band establishes pedagogical jazz foundations including beginning jazz theory and improvisation techniques, as well as fundamental style concepts key to playing in the big band setting with the goal of preparing students to become members of the jazz ensemble. The Jazz Band performs medium to beginning-advanced repertoire spanning the breadth of the jazz idiom including latin, blues, fusion, and rock. This group is an extracurricular group that spans from November to May.

INDOOR PERCUSSION

The Edison High School Indoor Percussion group is a  component of the marching band that continue to rehearse and compete indoors during the winter time. The Indoor percussion group puts on its own show and attends various competitions around the state.  This group is also open to 8th Graders who will be attending Edison High School the following school year.

WINTER GUARD

The Edison High School (Indoor) Winter Color Guard group is a  component of the marching band that continue to rehearse and compete indoors during the winter time. The Indoor Guard puts on its own show and competes in various competitions around NJ and PA.  This group is also open to 8th Graders who will be attending Edison High School the following school year.

TRI-M MUSIC HONOR SOCIETY

Tri-M is an international Music Honor Society that recognizes students for their academic and muscial achievements, rewards them for their accomplishments and service activities, and helps to inspire other students to excel at music, leadersip, and the performing arts.   Tri-M is a program of NAfME:  The National Association for Music Education, which is the largest arts education association in the world.  Students in this group are made up of the most outstanding members of the band, choir, orchestra and guitar students at Edison High School.
